Industrial noises meet chaotic metal vocals and lyrics exploring the darkest human experiences. DestroyerMariko’s unique solo project draws from influences such as Android Lust and Nine Inch nails, and her experiences as the frontwoman of Sydney metal bands Rainbow Death Ray and Wintergaunt. One of the earliest female singer-screamers to hit the local heavy scene, she mixes soaring feminine melodies with aggressive brutal deathgrowls, a combination she now continues to push to its extremes. While her lyrics are deeply introspective, processing a lifetime of unique challenges and traumas, DestroyerMariko’s writing style is intentionally open and metaphorical, allowing for wider relatability amongst audiences facing their own struggles. Meanwhile her onstage energy proves that this is not “just karaoke” – it’s a mix of theatre and art, and something different and unusual in the local heavy music scene. No AI, 100% old school authenticity.
